2. Principles of Data Processing

findnix.eu was developed according to the principle „Privacy by Design". We collect and process personal data only to the extent necessary for the operation of the search engine and our services. Our principle: „Find everything, store nothing".

  • No tracking cookies
  • No user profiles
  • No sharing with advertising networks
  • Servers exclusively in Germany (EU)
  • Encrypted transmission (HTTPS/TLS)

3. Search Queries

Search queries are processed anonymously. We do not store IP addresses in connection with search queries. The search history is stored exclusively locally in the user's browser (localStorage) and does not leave the device.

The following external services are used for the search:

  • SearXNG (self-hosted instance on our server) — no data sharing with third parties
  • Brave Search API (Brave Software, Inc., USA) — anonymized search queries, no IP addresses. Privacy policy: brave.com/privacy/search
  • Pexels API (for images and videos) — anonymized requests. Privacy policy: pexels.com/privacy-policy
  • Openverse (WordPress Foundation) — public API, no user identification
  • Europeana API (Europeana Foundation, NL) — public API, no personal data
  • OpenAIRE / BASE (scientific search) — public APIs
  • SerpAPI (for videos) — anonymized requests

4. Registration and User Account

Registration is voluntary and not required for basic use. The following data is collected during registration:

  • Email address (for account identification and communication)
  • Password (stored as a bcrypt hash, not in plain text)
  • Registration date and IP address (to protect against abuse, deleted after 30 days)

Legal basis: Art. 6 para. 1 lit. b GDPR (contract fulfillment). Users can delete their account at any time — all personal data will then be irrevocably removed.

5. Optional IP Storage (Point System)

Registered users can voluntarily agree to the storage of their IP address and receive points in the findnix point system for this. This consent can be revoked at any time via the account settings. Legal basis: Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a GDPR (consent).

6. Advertising Bookings

For paid bookings, the following data is processed: email address, payment information (for PayPal: processed via PayPal, we do not receive card data), billing address (if provided), booking history.

Legal basis: Art. 6 para. 1 lit. b GDPR (contract fulfillment) and Art. 6 para. 1 lit. c GDPR (tax retention obligations, 10 years).

7. Payment Service Provider PayPal

PayPal (Europe) S.à r.l. et Cie, S.C.A., Luxembourg. When paying via PayPal, the data necessary for the transaction is transmitted to PayPal. Privacy policy: paypal.com/privacy

8. Sitemap Submission

When submitting sitemaps, RSS feeds, or URLs, the IP address is stored to protect against abuse (rate limiting) and is automatically deleted after 30 days. Legal basis: Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR (legitimate interest).

9. Cookies and Local Storage

findnix.eu uses only technically necessary cookies:

  • Session Cookie (fnx_session): For logged-in users, deleted when the browser is closed
  • Language Setting (ui_lang): Stores the selected language, 1 year
  • Cookie Consent: Stores the decision regarding the cookie banner, 7 days

Marketing or tracking cookies are not used.

10. Analysis and Statistics

findnix.eu conducts a data protection-compliant self-analysis without external tools (no Google Analytics, no Matomo). Only anonymized, aggregated data is stored. Identification of individual users is not possible.

11. Server and Hosting

findnix.eu is operated on a VPS server by 1blu AG (Germany). All data remains in Germany within the EU. A data processing agreement (DPA) with 1blu is in place.

12. AI Services

For the AI summarization of search results, the Claude API from Anthropic is used. Search queries are forwarded anonymously (no user IDs, no IP addresses). Privacy policy of Anthropic: anthropic.com/privacy

13. Rights of Affected Persons

According to the GDPR, you have the following rights: Access (Art. 15), Rectification (Art. 16), Erasure (Art. 17), Restriction (Art. 18), Data Portability (Art. 20), Objection (Art. 21), Withdrawal of Consent (Art. 7 para. 3).
