FOSS Engine Royale -- Monogame Lap

I'm pitting 8 FOSS game engines/frameworks/libraries against each other--by making breakout in each of them with a 6-day time limit. This week is Monogame, an open-source successor to Microsoft's well-known XNA framework. I had pretty high hopes for this one, but it was a bit of a miss in the end.
