An Unplanned Double Touch-and-Go at Porta Westfalica
As far as I can tell, this C172 approached way too fast, and then flared too high, leading to a bounce. The pilot then initiated a go-around, but made the mistake of retracting the flaps all at once, which lead to another loss of height with a second touchdown. Thanks to the long runway they made it out in one piece, but this is a good example why go-arounds should be practiced. I'm not familiar with that variant of the C172, is it perhaps like some C150 where the flap switch latches in the "retract" position, so if you push it up, it retracts the flaps completely unless you manually move the switch back to neutral? My instructor explicitly trained that and warned me of precisly the situation we are seeing here. A go-around with the flaps retracting too fast.
