PeerTube Admin 21: Redundancy of videos to boost performance
Problem - I run my PeerTube instance at my parents house on a NUC. - They only have 10 Mbit uplink - They live in Germany and I'm far away in South Korea on a different continent - Sometimes it takes a lot of time to start the video - Sometimes the video stutters - It might not be a problem if I used a real server - But that is expensive - I'm already hosting almost 40 GB and it will only grow with time - When several people wath the same video then peer to peer kicks in - You share your bandwidth and upload for other people - But when you're the only one watching especially on a small instance like mine then p2p doesn't kick in and you see the problems mentioned before. Solution - Now that you know what the problem is, what is the solution? - PeerTube has the concept of "Redundancy" between instances - But how do I get other server administrators to donate expensive hard drive space? - I have still space left on my laptop at home - The laptop is (almost) always connected to etherne
