Food History! | All About Chicken a la King(Yum!) from 1947!
Ooh!! Chicken a la King! It also has several stories about how it came to be. I'll share some of the tome ones and teach you how to make a wonderful version of this classic from the 1940s! It's time to bring this fabulous dish back!! Come on into the kitchen! Here is your recipe! 2 TBS Butter 1 Green Pepper, Chopped Fine 1 Cup Mushrooms, Sliced 2 TBS Flour (or 3 if you prefer a thicker sauce) 1 Cup Chicken Stock 2 Cups chicken, Cooked and Chopped 1/2 Cup Frozen Peas, Defrosted 1 12oz Can Evaporated Milk 2 Egg Yolks 4 oz Jar, Sliced Pimentos 1 TSP Salt, 1/2 TSP Pepper 4 TBS Sherry Melt butter in large saucepan, saute green peppers and mushrooms until soft. Remove veggies with slotted spoon leaving butter. Add flour and chicken broth, cook until thickened. Add back veggies, chicken, peas and cook until warmed. Add milk, egg yolks, pimentos and sherry over low heat stir until thickened. Serve in noodle ring or with noodles, rice or patty shells. Thank you so much for joining me!!!! W
