Sunset + Poem: Winter Solstice Approaches
November 07, looking toward the sunset after our second (very light) snow. Days are getting shorter, nights and shadows are longer. Early winter days still hold great beauty, but we need to focus on the darkness as well as the light. Darkness is rest, sleep, gestation, soil, night, blood, rebirth. Saule is the Latvian sun goddess, Ragana is the Latvian goddess of wild places, witches, darkness-- and the two balance one another. Life needs light and dark, and as the sun waxes and wanes through the year the balance of power ebbs and flows between the two. A short poem by me and Music excerpt: Somnia Variation 3 relax and sleep by Reed Mathis Red lingers in the winter sky sunrise and sunset bleeding into day Saule weakens, days shorten as she floats languorous, dreamy in her magical nocturnal garden while darkness grows shadows spread nights stretch as Ragana waxes in strength Solstice approaches
