Latest Critter Rescue: Ladybug!
We don't live alone on the land! Whether I'm gardening, harvesting dead wood for firewood, mowing, or just walking around, I'm always running into some of the other residents: insects, spiders, frogs and toads, rodents, birds and so on. Sometimes my activities interfere with theirs (most often for insects and spiders) and whenever possible I try to either change my trajectory to protect them, or move them out of harm's way. This fall for some reason (something in the weather patterns, I'm sure: wet summer or dry, warm fall?) there have been a *lot* of Ladybugs. This is the non-native Seven-spotted Lady Beetle Coccinella septempunctata (introduced to North America for aphid control, it has spread and naturalised, the impact on native species is not fully established). They are awfully cute and photogenic :) Music excerpt: Candy Apple Blue - Surf Ninja 3 YouTube Audio Library
