Strut! Ruffed Grouse- First 'Red' Variant for Me
Ruffed Grouse Bonasa umbellus are fairly common here-- not in great numbers but I see them fairly often on the acreage and the farm. Not too rare to see a male displaying especially in fall, and always a treat. This is my first time seeing one with the reddish ruff and on the tail (at least first one I've seen in display, it might not be so obvious if it were not displaying)- usually the ruff and band on tail are near/black. Cool! When I get my long form video done for October, I'll have just a moment of it as it flies away.
