Dr Ullas Karanth explaining the value of camera trap data to tiger conservationists

⏱ 1:18 🌐 peertube.wtf

Dr. Ullas Karanth discussing how the study he co-authored – “A hierarchical model for estimating the spatial distribution and abundance of animals detected by continuous line recorders” – might change the current thinking of scientists about the use of camera trap information. Because it is now possible to exactly incorporate the time of capture into the data analysis this could benefit the scientists. It provides more power to mimic nature in the sense of how tigers actually get ‘trapped’ in cameras, and how their movement, behaviour, and space-use relate to time. The study is published on 17 May in the open access journal PLOS ONE (https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0176966) (*Credit: Wildlife Conservation Society*)
