Penguin Parade at Edinburgh Zoo
Historical and more recent footage show the world-famous penguin parade at Edinburgh Zoo grounds (and beyond) from the 1950s and 1960s to the present day. Remarkable footage from the 1960s of the king penguins leaving the zoo to walk along Corstorphine road and into the heart of Edinburgh streets complete with police escort. This has been abandoned, so, gentoo, rock hopper and king penguins now wander around Edinburgh zoo only β in this clip to the beat of 'funky penguin'. Lynda Burrill, a former bird keeper, explains how the accidental escape of penguins spawned the traditional penguin parade at Edinburgh Zoo. This is a clip from the 2013 BBC documentary βAnimal Magic β 100 Years of Edinburg Zooβ, narrated by John Hannah (Scottisch actor).
