The "Balze of Valdarno"; geological wonders

In the Upper Valdarno, between Arezzo and Florence, we immerse ourselves in a unique and extraordinary landscape sculpted by erosion: the 'balze,' one-of-a-kind rock formations born from an ancient Pliocene lake and studied by Leonardo da Vinci. The Sentiero dell’Acqua Zolfina reveals these geological wonders, offering breathtaking views of a prehistoric landscape. Meanwhile, the ancient Roman road Cassia Vetus leads to panoramic views of the ancient lake, as well as medieval villages and Romanesque churches.
