Passed over through the centuries from teacher to student, as witnessed by the innumerable editions around. Only in recent years, though, a couple of Urtext editions have appeared among the reprints of the late-800 versions for cello and piano we all are familiar with. This recording is based on the score found in Edition Güntersberg Urtext (G172, 2010), which follows the Offenbach print of 1799 (which in turn is a reprint of the first edition, published in 1795 in Paris). It includes the Solo part and a Bass line, without figures. Another Urtext edition has been published by Peters (EP9859, 2000), featuring also a simple realization of the continuo part for a keyboard instrument. A playa
