That time the UK Government tried to turn us all into coders - The BBC Micro
In the 1980s the UK government had this horrible realisation we knew nothing about computers, and that they were slowly taking over our lives. To combat this they came up with the Computer Literacy Project which saw a new computer from Acorn put into nearly every school in the country. Combined with a TV series called Making The Most of the Micro they saw to it that most teenagers of the 1980s had some exposure to programming. This computer helped kick-start the UK computing revolution and is responsible for giving many software houses and programmers their first taste of what a computer could do. I have a look at what the BBC Micro is, what the BBC's Computer Literacy Project was and then do some programming using BASIC and assembly language.
