Just before the pandemic I found that someone I knew was suffering abuse -- basically held captive in his apartment by his son. He apparently was suffering some form of dementia and declining health due to alcoholism, exacerbated by the neglect and abuse heaped upon him by one of his sons. He essentially lived like a homeless person inside his apartment, while his son excavated his bank account and credit. Eventually, another of his sons saved him, but did not prosecute the other...this came back to haunt him and his family later when the elder abuser stole more of the father's money and his other son's inheritance. It's hard to believe this level of arrogant and narcissistic selfishness exists to the point someone could do this to another human being, but then again, we have a president in the United States who is an exemplar of this kind of behavior--and, of course, the elder abuser is a Trump supporter.
