RIOT Summit 2025, "M³: Hardware/OS Co-Design for Heterogeneous System-on-Chips"

To address this issue, we propose M³, a hardware/operating system co-design that aims to reduce system complexity. M³ builds upon the microkernel technology and introduces a new hardware component that acts as an abstraction and isolation layer. In this way, we can securely integrate untrusted hardware components and at the same time provide a common interface that reduces the overall system complexity.
