RIOT Summit 2025, "Performance of DTLS with Connection ID in Narrowband IoT Networks"
Johann Zuerner (University of Applied Sciences Bonn-Rhein-Sieg) Slides: https://summit.riot-os.org/2025/wp-content/uploads/sites/20/2025/09/s03-03.pdf --- Connection ID is an extension in Datagram Transport Layer Security (DTLS) that helps maintain session continuity when IP addresses or ports change β common in constrained networks like Narrowband-IoT. Without Connection ID, a new DTLS handshake is required whenever an IP address changes. In this talk, I present performance results of using Connection ID in DTLS over NB-IoT. The analysis includes measuring handshake duration and current consumption on embedded hardware such as the Nordic nRF9160 DK. The presentation will also include a live demonstration measuring the impact of IP address changes on session continuity and resource usage. --- Johann Zuerner is a recent graduate in Computer Science from Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg (HBRS). In his bachelorβs thesis he focused on secure and efficient communication in constrained netw
