Drinking Again (for Wild Bill Holmes)

Here's a pretty depressing one about the depths of alcoholism. I don't know if I can say that it was inspired, but I was thinking of a friend Wild Bill when I wrote it. He battled the bottle for the better part of his life, and, as we all eventually do, finally lost. He would often show up completely blitzed, and we'd sit and drink, and he would tell stories that got better every time he told them. He wasn't as depressed as the character in the song, in fact, he was usually having a great time. I guess the character is one that runs through a lot of my songs. I've considered stringing the songs together into something of a concept album, but let's not kid ourselves, I'm not getting around to that any time soon. I released a studio version of this song as a B-side of a single on streaming services.
