Custom programming Aastra Vista 390/480 phones
I filmed this in the summer of 2016, from my office at Bell Canada where I worked at the time. I never uploaded this video, to avoid any risk of being in trouble for using company resources (the telephone line running into my office) for non-work-related activities. I forgot I ever filmed it until now. The Aastra Telecom (the company that acquired Northern Telecom's POTS and Meridian 1 phone production in 2001) Vista 390 and 480 are POTS phones with a very cool programmable display. You can program a custom message to display when the phone is idle, and custom functions for the soft keys. You fill out a form on an Aastra webpage, dial a special number, dial in the password given on the webpage, and it uses in-band signaling to program the phone. Super cool, if far-fetched, feature. It appears that the service was shut down in late 2018 - the webpage is no longer accessible, and the phone number just rings.
