Building a Marble Machine That Generates QR Codes

⏱ 10:56 🌐 makertube.net

I decided to join the infamous club of people attempting to tame the beast that is tiny marbles. My goal was to create a machine that can generate a QR code using two different colored marbles in a reasonable amount of time. That last part gets complicated fast once you realize there are 1,369 pixels in a QR code. As it turns out, reliably controlling those little marbles at all is indeed extremely difficult. I had to solve several challenges: sorting glass marbles by color, releasing them in the correct sequence at high speed, while simultaneously lifting new marbles to keep the system running, and many more... Thankfully, by standing on the shoulders of giants who came before me, I eventually figured it out. Here's a partial list of inspirations that both sparked this project and helped me complete it: Wintergatan: https://www.youtube.com/@UCcXhhVwCT6_WqjkEniejRJQ Engineezy: https://www.youtube.com/@UCSksodwjNeOQ3Oywr1G4Nag Daniel de Bruin: https://www.youtube.com/@UCeM6ecqBkybhzQ
