Ab den 1960er Jahren nutzt Fiat u.a. die Gotthardbahn, um Neuwagen aus italienischen Werken in den Norden Europas zu transportieren. Die Fahrzeuge werden auf Autozügen (Güterzügen) verladen, die durch den Gotthard- oder Simplontunnel fahren.
