PGC 2024 Visit

I visited my buddy Percy Echols II as part of Pittsburgh Glass Center's Art On Fire and studio expansion opening. Percy is the main reason I like going to PGC- without him, they wouldn't have any neon and plasma stuff and would just be plain old glassblowing. Percy runs https://taminglightning.net/ where he posts info about plasma art, podcasts, and is quickly becoming one of the easiest to use suppliers in the field- stocking some items that are difficult to get elsewhere. In this video we nerd out in his home lab studio. He has been making a high voltage probe for oscilloscopes to read the waveform of transformers while filling- so you can tune the mixture and amount of gases to the transformer/inverter you intend the piece to run on. Watch till the end and he finds the sweet spot on a Mundy Hepburn filled lamp! Currently Percy is starting a multi week residency at the Corning Museum of Glass.
