When I saw this reference photo I was really captivated by the sitters subtle expression and the lighting. They aren’t squinting as if looking towards a harsh light instead they look a bit questioning or skeptical or maybe optimistic. I loved the way the warm glow moved across the person’s face and lit up their eyes. I wanted to draw attention there by using several bright colors in the eyes and make the thing they’re looking towards to be one of the main subjects of the piece even though it’s not rendered or in the frame of the picture.
