Transcript: Sometimes when working from reference photos in procreate I’ll use a grid. It’s very easy to add the grid in the app by going to the wrench then canvas then toggling the drawing guide button. BUT I want to highlight that I make the grid very very big. Like only 4 squares across the canvas. This is important to me because I just want the grid to replace some of the pencil measurements I would be using if I was working from life. Some of those big measures are hard to capture on such a small screen when the canvas and subject are rotating and zooming in and out. The big grid ensures that I’m taking the small measurements with my pencil as I normally would when working from life and it retains my original mark making. Which to me is the most important thing. Because I want the makers hand to be present. Plus studying and capturing all those details brings me great joy as an artist.
