Funding continuous cover forestry

In recent decades, #Portugal has increasingly experienced severe #ForestFires. To find out the reasons and possible solutions, Fern undertook a field-trip to meet with foresters, local leaders and community members, and witness the impacts of short-sighted forest policies that encourage intensive forest management practices. These policies increasingly put forests at risk of fires, droughts and invasive species, while communities are left to face the resulting social and economic consequences. Continuous cover forestry of native species is an alternative, sustainable model that would benefit people, nature and the climate. The #EU must provide policy incentives and funding to encourage the transition towards more natural forests and ecosystems.
