IKEA loves wood
IKEA is one of the world's largest consumers of wood. Every second a tree is cut down to become a cheap IKEA product. IKEA loves wood ('IKEA elsker træ') is a Danish investigative documentary from 2024 on IKEA's forestry practices in the Rumanian Carpathian mountains - an area with some of the last old-growth forests of Europe. There, IKEA is profiting the local corruption and loose rules of the FSC-certification to clear-cut valuable forests while at the same time projecting images of themselves as "protecting the forest". Local activist biologists try to uncover the exploitation of the forest and are jumped by groups of henchmen. Journalists take the video evidence back home and ask biodiversity researchers to judge how IKEA is furthering biodiversity with their forestry practices - they find this ridiculous. Documentary is in Danish, English and Rumanian.
