In this final episode, we discover how the Republic was split in two, needing either to reverse the course of the war or negotiate a peace treaty. Failing in either endeavor, the Republic was finally defeated at the battle of the River Ebro and surrendered to France. Refugees poured out of Spain, some going into hiding for over 40 years, but for those that remained the Civil War heralded a new era: Franco's Spain.
