On July 14, 1970, in the South Bronx, members of the Puerto Rican revolutionary organization Young Lords took control of Lincoln Hospital, known locally as "The Butcher Shop," because of poor or even life-threatening care and unsanitary conditions. These activists, many of whom were very young, barricaded themselves inside the hospital, demanding several measures
