Crisis at Unist'ot'en

Back in 2011 sub.Media started doing media support for the Unist’ot’en Camp. If you have not heard about the Unist’ot’en, in short, they are an indigenous community in northwest “Canada.” They started re-occupying their territory in 2009, with the aim of kick starting a process of decolonization, but also to block the construction of the Pacific Trails Pipeline, a fossil fuel transportation project that would have brought fracked gas from northeastern “British Columbia” to a liquefied natural gas port on the Pacific. Since then, what began as a single cabin “in the middle of nowhere” has grown into a small village, that includes a healing center that aids indigenous people overcome trauma and addiction issues. Today the Unist’ot’en are at crossroads, as a new pipeline project, the Coastal Gaslink pipeline, has received backing from the Canadian government, their courts and their police.
