Giving the spit plaque to the antique dealer

After clicking on the antique dealer so Guybrush starts walking towards him, if you open the inventory you might accidentally select an item you don't want to use. In this case, you can move the cursor out of the way, open the inventory, press Enter, close the inventory, and then click on the antique dealer.
