Understanding the Windows Registry

A classroom lecture. We will explore the Windows registry and file structure. The registry is loaded in RAM when the operating system loads. We will look at registry hives, keys, and values. Registry keys are container objects, registry objects are like files. Know where your registry is located on the hard disk. We will look at the critical keys of the registry: SAM, HKey_Local_Machine, and more. We discuss restore points and other techniques of registry backup and recovery.
