As mourners gathered in a church for a service for the victims killed and injured in a fire in a bar in the Swiss resort town of Crans-Montana on Thursday (January 1) evening, a 17-year-old girl described how she escaped the flames that tore through a New Year's party. Breaking down into tears, Laetitia Place said she and her friend had just been about to enter the bar when she saw the flames, and turned to run out. She said she had seen another friend and grabbed his arm, but let go in the chaos. "Now he's not answering me anymore", she said.
