Arctic chill brings snow and ice warnings into the new year

The New Year has begun under an Arctic chill, with snow and ice warnings in place across the country. The Met Office warns that heavy snow showers could leave some rural communities cut off, increase the risk of power cuts, and cause widespread disruption. Six yellow weather warnings remain in force for snow and ice, reaching into Monday, while areas under amber alerts could see between 10 and 20 centimetres of snow, even at lower altitudes.
