Fury at plans to build 150 homes next to village inspired by Charles Dickens' 'The Pickwick Papers'. Fury has erupted over plans to build 150 new homes next to a sleepy English village which inspired Charles Dickens' first novel The Pickwick Papers. Developers want to construct the properties north of the A4, near Pickwick in Wiltshire. But angry residents have dubbed the move an 'absolute travesty' and say it will 'destroy a historic landscape'. It is claimed the village was the inspiration for Dickens' first novel 'The Pickwick Papers' published in 1836.
