PM fails to back Andy Burnham for by-election

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer failed to back Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham to try for the Gorton and Denton by-election as a seat has become free. Labour MP Andrew Gwynne has vacated it due to medical grounds. Burnham has been critical of Starmer in the past and is see as a potential challenger to his leadership.
