Bali 'suitcase' murderer who killed girlfriend's mother and hid body walks free
An American who killed his girlfriend's mother in a luxury Bali hotel room and stuffed the body into a suitcase in a bid to access her trust fund has been released from prison after serving 12 years of an 18 year sentence. Tommy Schaefer walked out of Kerobokan Prison at around 12am Bali time on Tuesday and was immediately handed over to immigration officials for deportation. As he left the prison, he answered a series of brief questions from reporters, including on what his next plans were. Schaefer said he was feeling 'happy,' adding that 'God is good' and that he plans to 'enjoy life'. His former girlfriend Heather Mack, who was also convicted in the case, was released from Kerobokan prison several years ago. After returning to the United States, she was rearrested and is now serving another 26 years in a US prison.
