Fuel duty fury at PMQs as oil prices soar due to Iran conflict

Kemi Badenoch demanded Keir Starmer act to help struggling Brits fill their tanks today amid shock rises in petrol prices.The Conservative leader used Prime Ministers Questions to push Sir Keir to extend a freeze on fuel duty in the wake of the US/ Israeli attack on Iran which has sent oil prices into spasm.The freeze is due to end in September and the Cabinet appears to be at odds on whether to keep it in place, leaving drivers at risk of an additional price shock.A senior Cabinet ally of Sir Keir Starmer heaped pressure on Rachel Reeves to extend it this morning, only for the Chancellor to tell MPs later it was too soon to think about what might happen in the autumn.
