What happened to missing Brazilian academic Vitoria Figueiredo Barreto - and what are the latest leads? Police searching for the psychologist say a boat she may have taken was missing a lifebelt. Vitoria has not been in touch with loved ones since March the Third after she met a friend in Colchester, Essex. She took a 30-minute bus journey to the coastal town of Brightlingsea - an area the friend says she had never visited - and was apparently seen on CCTV jumping over a fence into a boatyard just after midnight. The boat has since been found adrift. Police have also recovered her tote bag and laptop, and say the boat was missing a horseshoe-shaped buoyancy aid.One theory is that she donned the lifebelt in a bid to swim back to shore. The mystery surrounding Ms Barreto's disappearance has now attracted the inevitable interest of amateur online detectives keen to crack the case.
