Defence Sec struggles to say how many working warships Royal Navy has
Keir Starmer has again refused to say when he will reveal the much-delayed blueprint for increasing spending on the UK's Armed Forces, even as he warned of the threat posed by Russia to world peace.The Prime Minister today warned that Western nations are facing a 'war on two fronts as he meets allies at a major European defence meeting in Finland .The invasion of Ukraine and the US-Israel conflict with Iran are the two major arenas of war impacting European nations, the Prime Minister said at the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) leaders' summit.But he would not reveal when when the UK will unveil its defence investment plan (DIP), which was due to be published last autumn but has since been repeatedly pushed back.Amid rising fears about the state of the British Army and the Royal Navy, Defence Secretary John Healey was this morning unable to say how many of the Royal Navy's surface fleet is currently fit to fight.
