Doja Cat reveals she suspects she may have chronic condition lipoedema
In recent years, celebrities such as Shaughna Phillips, Josie Gibson, Kerry Katona, Gemma Atkinson – and most recently Doja Cat – have helped shine a spotlight on lipoedema, a little-known condition believed to affect up to one in ten women. The chronic condition causes an abnormal build-up of fat beneath the skin, most commonly in the legs, hips and buttocks, and sometimes the arms. In a recent TikTok video, Doja Cat revealed she suspects she may have the condition, explaining how it contributed to her decision to undergo liposuction in 2023. She described how fat accumulated disproportionately in her lower body, particularly around her thighs, knees, calves and hips. Lipoedema typically develops during periods of hormonal change – such as puberty, pregnancy or menopause.
