30,000 tonne rubbish dump discovered at Leicestershire beauty spot

staggering 30,000 tonnes of household rubbish has been illegally dumped at a protected beauty spot near Shawell, Leicestershire, covering an area the size of a football pitch and causing the village to 'stink'. Fly-tippers tried to conceal the mountain of waste with soil, polluting the Site of Special Scientific Interest behind a service station on the A5. The dump was discovered after passers-by reported a foul smell, prompting the Environment Agency and Natural England to warn the public to stay away and launch an investigation.
