A 100-year-old VE Day veteran has recalled the "jolly" moment she learned of the German surrender.Ruth Barnwell, from Putney, signed up to the Women's Royal Navy Service (Wrens) in 1942, aged 17.She has urged people to remember those who died during the war because "they gave their lives for freedom for us".
