Congresswoman under fire for harmful rhetoric following Sikh House floor prayer

A Republican congresswoman has come under fire from both sides of the aisle after posting hateful comments about New Jersey Sikh religious leader Giani Surinder Singh. Rep. Mary Miller initially wrote that it was 'deeply troubling that a Muslim' led the House's prayer, and then edited the comment to say 'Sikh' instead. Even still, Miller drew the ire of Republicans and Democrats alike who condemned her comments. Surinder Singh was invited to pray by New Jersey Republican Rep. Jeff Van Drew who said, 'As a Catholic, I take my faith seriously and I also believe part of being American is respecting other people's faiths too.'
