London's lawless parks: How capital has been plagued by violence
Terrified screams echoed through a London park yesterday evening after a knife-wielding man threatened a young girl during a party. An occurrence which has been all too common across London in recent years as knife crime has become rampant among young people in the capital, which has seen a total of 11 teenage murders over the last year. There was a 20 per cent rise in knife offences in the year ending December 2023 compared to the previous year, with 14,577 knife-related crimes in total. The shocking incident unfolded at Gladstone Park in north-west London, where families and friends had gathered for a summer celebration before chaos erupted. Witnesses say the suspect brandished a knife and advanced on the girl as terrified partygoers fled in fear, with some reportedly hiding behind trees or scrambling to protect children. The frightening scenes have reignited concerns over safety in the capital's green spaces.
