British tourists put on alert as new Greece wildfires spread amid 44C heatwave. Firefighters used helicopters to battle flames and smoke in Kryoneri, 25 km north of Athens as the country sweltered under soaring temperatures. The fire started from Drosopigi village and burned several houses, according to state ERT television. Residents of nearby village Kryoneri were instructed by authorities to leave towards Athens.
