Huge blaze rips through ancient 8th century Spanish church

A fire broke out at Cordoba's historic mosque-cathedral on Friday night, shortly after 9 p.m, and has since been brought under control, according to information that the National Police and the Cabildo, which administers the site, gave to local press. According to the Cabildo, at 10:30 p.m. the flames had been extinguished. Initial reports from local press suggested the blaze may have been caused by a short circuit in a floor-sweeping machine located in the Chapel of Almanzor.
