Blind woman can now see through her tooth thanks to rare surgery
A woman who had been blind for a decade saw her husband and dog for the first time after a tooth was implanted into her eye in a complex and unusual surgery. Gail Lane, 75, from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, lost her sight ten years ago due to an auto-immune disorder that scarred her corneas, the lenses essential for clear vision. In February, she became one of just three people to undergo the rare osteo-odonto keratoprosthesis (OOKP) surgery, also known as the 'tooth-in-eye' procedure. The two-part operation involved implanting a prosthetic cornea attached to a peg made from her own tooth into her eye socket.
