Driverless cars come to New York as Mayor signs off on new pilot program

New Yorkers could soon be sharing the road with driverless cars after Mayor Eric Adams signed off on a new pilot program that will allow autonomous vehicles to be tested in some of the busiest neighborhoods of Manhattan and Brooklyn. The initiative gives tech giant Waymo the green light to deploy eight self-driving cars across the city through late September. Each vehicle will have a so-called 'safety specialist' behind the wheel as a precaution.
