More than 1,000 killed as devastating floods hit south-east Asia

More than 1,000 people have been killed after days of intense monsoon rains triggered deadly flooding across parts of Asia. The storms have unleashed flash floods and landslides in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Malaysia, leaving entire communities underwater. Separate weather systems brought torrential, extended rainfall to the entire island of Sri Lanka and large parts of Indonesia's Sumatra, southern Thailand and northern Malaysia last week, worsening the disaster across the region.
