Shop chiefs furious after Met boss said they should 'step up'
A retail head says he is 'flabbergasted' that the head of the Metropolitan Police has criticised retailers calling on them to 'step up and do better' when it comes to helping police tackle shoplifting. Andrew Goodacre, CEO of the British Independent Retailers Association, said today that he 'could not believe it' when he heard Met Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley was calling on stores to do more and publicly lecturing them that 'this was a team effort'. He said the retail sector had in fact spent Β£1.2 billion on high tech extra security measures in the last two years but was still losing Β£2 billion in stock a year.
