I knew in my life that I was adopted, but it wasn't until I was nearly 50 that I decided I really should try and find the woman who gave birth to me. I'd been told that she used to visit me in the orphanage regularly which came as quite a surprise because I presumed she put me there, abandoned me. But actually, she'd hoped that at some point she'd be able to give me a home.
